Numerous South Koreans on Saturday filled the streets of Seoul in massive rival rallies for and against impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol, as the Constitutional Court nears a decision on whether to formally remove him from office over his imposition of martial law in December.

South Koreans gathered in huge numbers in the capital Seoul on Saturday to support or oppose impeached president Yoon Suk Yeol before a court decides whether his short-lived declaration of martial law disqualifies him from office.

They held rallies for Yoon Suk Yeol as the constitutional court gets closer to deciding whether to formally remove him from office over his attempt to declare martial law back in December.

Tensions are mounting across South Korea ahead of a ruling expected next week on the fate of impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol.

Thousands of people are rallying across South Korea, supporting suspended President Yun Suk-yeol ahead of a Constitutional Court verdict. The court ruling, expected later this month, will decide if South Korea will uphold Yun's impeachment over his declaration of martial law.
