The Type 90 tank (90式戦車, Kyū-maru-shiki-sensha) is a main battle tank (MBT) of the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF). It was designed and built by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries as a replacement for the Type 61 and to supplement the then current fleet of Type 74 tanks, and entered service in 1990.

The Third-Generation Type 90 Kyū-maru (90式戦車 Kyū-maru-shiki-sensha) was developed to match the western power's most up-to-date Main Battle Tanks, namely the American M1 Abrams, and the German Leopard 2.

The automatic tracker is effective against ground targets and can be used when the Type 90 MBT is stationary or on the move. When engaging without the auto-tracker, the gunner or commander uses his manual controls to track the target.
